Each year, Ulster YouthBuild provides at-risk young people who reside in Ulster County a program of character building, academic instruction, life skills training, leadership and career development, job readiness preparation, and on-the-job construction training. They also are offered the opportunity to work with a mentor who will assist them in achieving their goals. Ulster YouthBuild looks for and recruit applicants who have a sincere desire to change their lives by earning their High School Equivalency (HSE), obtaining and sustaining meaningful employment, and using their talents to build stronger communities. The Comprehansive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention program is funded by the NYS Dept. of Health. Through the implementation of evidence based programs, this initiative strives to: delay the onset of sexual activity, reduce frequency of sex, reduce the number of sexual partners, increase negotiation & decision making skills, increase condom & other contraceptive use.
